Client Critiques

I've had the Wilife camera method for two months, and I've located it meets my desires to supply a view of what's happening at specific locations about the house (inside or out). I found the technique delivers the goods by offering the homeowner a fairly clear image, stores the image in an conveniently managed retrieval system, and you can view "what is happening" when you are away from property more than the Online by way of your laptop or a smart phone. Also, you can individually set the cameras up to have the program E-mail or text you if there is motion detected or the system goes "off-line."
The skinny critique:
Pluses: for the most component painless set-up, trouble shooting is extensively detailed (Logitech of course desires you to be able to solve connection problems), Web accessibility actions are recorded (and easily accessed), adaptability, the high quality of the images can be varied, images can be saved, and movies can be saved of what is picked-up by the camera(s) in a WMA file.
Negatives: starts to get pricey by the time you get your 4th camera, some locations in the house not very easily receptive to signals and not all cameras are suited to all places (I write about this beneath).
Full Overview:
This "Starter" program with the indoor camera is a good way to see what the technique can do for you. I say this simply because, for me, the indoor camera was a small tougher to set-up, but it also was flexible adequate that I was able to easily adjust its place and could tell exactly where I wanted to spot my other cameras ahead of purchasing them. In setting these locations, I at times implemented a laptop connected to the World wide web to give me instant feedback on my placement of cameras and what the image would look like.
Regarding problems, most had to do with receiving the signal from a variety of points in my home, and my home, approaching 40 years old, has its share of additions that I am thinking a newer home with continuous wiring will not have this issue. But, I am receiving ahead of myself.
I do not know why a "surveillance" program has often intrigued me, but more than the years I have tried various completely different wireless solutions (X-10's system, a further wireless program with the cameras applied with USB 2. water-proof Wireless Net Ready DVR Safety Method w/ four Pack Highigh Resolution Indoor/Outdoor Night Vision Surveillance Cameras with only "poor" to "fair" outcomes. WiLife's system provided me with an cheap "starter" system, a fine image, and it kept track of the activity that the cameras recorded.
Here are my observations relating to the technique with all of the many different components and their installation:
1st of all, it is hassle-free to hook-up. With the starter kit for the inside, I installed the software program on a media computer I had integrated into my audio/visual program, plugged-in the receiver to an outlet that wasn't "protected" by a surge protector and placed the camera in one more part of the residence, plugging that camera's LAN-like connector into yet another outlet. The first time I hooked it up, it searched for the camera(s) right after I told it I had "one." As I added cameras, I merely clicked on the "add additional cameras" button, changed the number of cameras, and it found them. With regards to firewall difficulties, I use OneCare Windows Live OneCare 2. (Up to 3 Users) for my computer's safety, and it handled this for me by asking if I wanted to let WiLife. I did and that problem was solved.
With regards to set-up troubles and the inside camera, I live in a rather sprawling property that has multiple floors and an addition (which is why my "radio signal" X-ten and other cameras had difficulties). I took the camera and placed it in unique places to see how it worked. In all but two areas, it worked well and was without difficulty picked-up by the WiLife system. With the camera at a single place, immediately after many times of not getting able to discover it, the system really had me assign an address, like an IP address, for the camera. After doing that, it worked fine, but I ended-up implementing an outside camera at that place, which picked-up the signal ideal away. NOTE: whilst I did not use the manual to perform-out my issues, the manual is pretty detailed and a extremely excellent manual, specifically in operating by way of connection and firewall concerns (if you have them). The manual is offered on the CD and from their websight [...], and if you have any doubts about no matter whether to get the system, you will need to download the manual and glance via it. In hindsight, I need to have consulted it in addition to the directions given by the program's help section in dealing with my minor complications.
As for the several set-ups, on one camera I use the infrared light, and it is especially inobtrusive. On the other cameras, I have an inside camera that is affixed to a window by the suction cup with the wide angle lens and an additional inside camera that is just in a room. This inside camera with the suction cup has stayed attached due to the fact I attached it six-weeks ago. A single note about the infrared camera, it will need to not be utilized around a pool or spa for it oftentimes "shows," depending on the color of the swimsuit, the swimmer's figure below the swimsuit.
Which camera perform finest? The outdoor camera works ideal. I have a decent image from dawn to dusk (and even in twilight), and I have not had any troubles with them sending the picture to the WiLife Computer system Center. I have a single of them pointed at my front door and one particular in the backyard that can view my hot tub or the backyard (even more on that in a minute). I wish there was a way I could post a video, but if you look-up my name on youtube, I have posted a single that shows the neighborhood kids coming to the front door and obtaining candy from my wife. In that video, you'd see the image of the entrance with just the light coming via the fixed-lights in the door, then, the fluorescent floodlights come-on (those frequently take a handful of seconds to "warm" up), and finally the lights on the side of the doors come on. Throughout the day, the image is particularly really good (I have posted a picture of the front door in the course of the day).
With the backyard outdoor camera, I attached-it to one thing my X-ten camera applied that could rotate the camera to fixed points that 1 established. It was called a "ninja" unit, and I have discovered it to be beneficial in permitting my backyard camera to view various spots in rotation, or on the other hand I want to do it.
The clock, or "spy," camera is another camera that is easy to use. I hooked it up, and it was worked fine from the get-go. It picks-up an image in slightly lower light far better than the inside camera. If there is one particular thing I wish the program had, it is that the clock camera had a battery back-up. Whilst the electrical energy does not go off but when or twice a year exactly where I reside, it is nonetheless anything I wish it had. On the plus side, the clock is a single of the easiest I have discovered to reset.
The technique has carried out what I wanted it to do: I had some concerns that some of the neighbor kids had been attempting to get into the spa, and the cameras showed me this wasn't accurate (my small dog was essentially slipping-in through a 4-in opening) It shows me who is at, and who has come to, the front and other doors and it has shown me what, if anything, my daughter does in my audio/visual room when I am not at property.
If I had young kids, I would likely have a single of the cameras in their space and in their playroom, and pointed outside to the yards where they play. With my dog, I have been able to find-out if he is damaging something even though becoming left alone (often he is guilty). Due to the fact the cameras turn-on and record activity, and show the recording on a time-line, one can conveniently go back and view what has take place during those recordings.
This is not a security technique, but I have found it supplements the centralized alarm system on my property fairly well. Which brings-up an instance, and a feature I have not mentioned, the capacity to view what is happening over your computer or your intelligent phone. We had been out of town for the day, and I received a contact about the alarm going off. The police had been on their way to the home and the alarm dispatcher was checking to see if we had carried out anything to trigger the alarm. I told them no, and to let me know if they identified something. I immediately logged-in on the WiLife internet web-site with my intelligent telephone and clicked on the outside cameras. For the reason that this was at night, I very first saw the policeperson's flashlight at a single of the entrances to the backyard (the alarm came from the back door being opened). Then, the outside security lights came on, and lastly the police checking the doors. With the WiLife method, you can essentially have notices sent to you if there is activity from any of the cameras by text and even an image of what triggered the camera if you want that information. Some of these characteristics require a subscription fee, and this may be a thing you would want to consider. I have the subscription and like it. Relating to this instance, it turned-out that I forgot to close one particular door all the way and dog pushed it open.
General, I have identified the WiLife System has met my demands. I did get the extended warranties on equipment by means of NEW as supplied on Amazon, and have been pleased with their service. The two occasions I have had a warranty issue with other gear (a pc and a printer), NEW has taken care of the matter quickly or has had quite good technical help to aid me resolve the predicament Even though I am not anticipating any complications with the WiLife Method, at times it doesn't hurt to have the extra protection. I specifically thought an extended warranty would be decent due to the fact one can not hook-it-up through an UPS or surge protector. I have uploaded a variety of photos to give you an idea of how the pictures sent by the cameras look.

Wilife Digital Safety Method is the very first video security program I've had that really functions . . . at least part of the time. But it is a far cry from foolproof. And I'll admit to being some thing of a fool when it comes to electronics.
I wanted this program to be in a position to appear in on my sleeping mother (she has Alzheimer's disease) without having waking her. And it turns out that the method is pretty superior for that objective, oftentimes. Here's what I seasoned:
The Fantastic
Getting this system in a bedroom exactly where you want to appear in on a baby or elder sometimes calls for seeing in the dark. This camera is surprisingly good at creating an image in light exactly where your eye fails to register an image. Lighten up your screen, if required, but you won't have to turn on a light to disturb your sleeper.
The images developed are at or above the level of safety cameras I've observed. Decent, but not good. And beneficial is adequate to achieve my objective.
So far, so decent, but wait! There's a lot more.
The Negative
Installing this method was something but the 15-minute breeze promised by the Logitech blurb. I ended up calling their help number (the rep was beneficial and pleasant) and lastly resolved the dilemma with new software. (six hours)
I wasn't completed however. The software program necessary to recognize the camera - and that took a lot of trips to the Understanding base to resolve. Turns out this technique does not work or play properly with my firewall (or my virus protection), so all those applications had to be turned off in order for camera recognition to happen (yet another four hours).
Then my sleeper complained about the brightness of the light on the spy clock. I toned it down with a sheet of paper cut to fit the display, and she was pacified (yet another hour). Had I not taken this step, she would have removed the camera from her area, and the complete workout would have been for naught.
The Ugly
The system refused to work at all this morning. Apparently, one other plan was interfering with recognition of the USB device, so I had to go through the entire install procedure again (yet another hour and 1/two). By this time, my temper is becoming frayed at the edges, and I'm wondering if it really is genuinely worth the effort I am placing in to it.
Conclusion
Image high quality is beneficial enough for my purposes, and leaving my devoted personal computer on all the time, I believe I can preserve speak to with the camera. So, for me it is worth it.
But, you should not have to be a laptop wizard to set this method up and get it operating. Installation should be the breeze promised - but for me it was not!
3 stars!
